A Call of Duty Journey: Through the eyes of a girl
NEWS | JIN | Call Of Duty | March 2, 2013
As I’m sure most of you are aware, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare (CoD4) has been a staple part of the competitive gaming scene for nearly six years now – and boy has it been a roller coaster ride. This was not only the first ever first-person shooter (FPS) but the first online game I ever played. I remember spending hours online shooting it up, at first on the team death match (TDM) servers and then, as I was introduced to more and more of the community, progressing to search and destroy (S&D). I started working with team mates and then eventually registering and taking part in the Do Gaming League (DGL). The amount of hours and effort going into practise was amazing. I would spend many nights researching on the net, looking for the perfect “nades”, “spam” spots, “rushes” and “configs”. I am sure this was the norm for many teams.
The number of team entries into the DGL was phenomenal, but sadly the numbers have dwindled and at the beginning of this year’s Do Gaming Summer Leg. It seemed as if CoD4 was on its last legs. Luckily, a wave of sanity seemed to spread through the community within the last few days of the registration period and we managed to see a boost in the number of registrations to forty-one teams. We have since seen two teams retiring from the Premier division and another two in first, leaving us with thirty-seven teams currently taking part in the Do Gaming League Summer Leg.
It is with great sadness that many of the top teams have retired from CoD4 making it a lot harder for first division players currently placed in the premier division to go up against the stronger teams such as ROCCAT South Africa and Bravado Gaming. This takes a lot of getting used to, so in the coming weeks I will take a look at the teams taking part in the Do Gaming League and hopefully get the chance to have a chat with them and find out how they are coping and what they are doing to improve.
My name is Jolene “JIN” Underwood and I will be keeping you updated each week with all of the latest COD4 news.
