Afresports Post Update
NEWS | Abdullah 'anneKsiy' Adam | Call Of Duty | March 5, 2018
Last weekend featured one of the first offline events of the year being hosted at Grand West Casino and Entertainment World in the mother city, the AfrEsports tournament hosted by ACGL and Zombiegamer. Bravado Gaming participated and competed in two titles hosted at the ACGL event, namely FIFA18 and Call of Duty World War 2 (COD) on PS4.
Although the weather was rather disappointing in Cape Town over the 24th and 25th of February, Grand West was full of life with many fans and enthusiasts of gaming and e-sports attending and being treated to a very interesting and exciting weekend. Many people were hyped to finally see a more accepted Call of Duty title and FIFA was not slouching in terms of viewers either. I caught up with our Call of Duty and FIFA teams to find out what went down in Cape Town.
The event was good, not one of the biggest we have seen but all the main teams were there. We lost to Origin e-sports in the winners bracket final due to some small errors, this forced us to the loser bracket where we beat Vinco Gaming and White Rabbit Gaming 3-0 progressing to the championships on Sunday. On Sunday we faced off against Origin e-sports in the Loser Bracket Final in which we took the win 3-1 and proceeded to play Energy Esports in the Grand Final.
We managed to beat Energy 3-2 in the first BO5 series and unfortunately lost 3-1 in the final series coming out 2nd for the event. We ran out of energy in the last series and were not playing at the high intensity that we usually do. We are feeling happy with our steady improvement but we will not be satisfied till we are at the top again and that’s what we plan to do. – Dillon ‘Lithium’ Charalambous
For the weeks ahead our Call of Duty team will be back at their strict and regular training routine so that they can hopefully claim the crown later this year. While our FIFA players also had a few things to say:
The tournament took place over both platforms, PS4 and Xbox One, which I think was awesome planning by the organizers as it gave an opportunity to ‘the best of both worlds.’ It was very well structured as there were different times given to qualify for the grand finals which made it in everyone’s best interests. Compared to other events, the scale was good and the event overall was a brilliant experience
We managed to get both of ourselves into the top 4 which I think is an awesome and amazing result considering Cape Town is home to some of the country’s best FIFA players. We’re currently feeling very good and confident. This weekend showed the mental strength as well as skill and capability we have. It also provided us with an opportunity to analyze and correct our mistakes and better our game-play.
We now look forward to the next event. The coming weeks will be important to us as we look to address the errors in our game-play and ready ourselves for the next tournament. – Wasim ‘Wass’ Rajah
I took part in the Afresports tournament in Cape Town all thanks to Bravado Gaming and came out 3rd. I am happy with 3rd place but felt I could’ve done better. This tournament definitely helped me improve mentally for tournaments and in-game to actually see how my level compared to other provinces and not only Johannesburg.
‘Wass’ came out 4th in the tournament so very good results all round for us. We felt good and hopefully next time one of us can win it. Moving forward is obviously just trying to improve more and more every day, do better and better at every tournament and work harder to be the best. This experience was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. The things I learnt in-game as well as personally outside of game towards other players and to people was such a great lesson for me.
To meet other Bravado players was a great experience too. And I just hope next time one of us can win the tournament. – Zaahid ‘Zaz’ Laher

Overall our boys did a fantastic job over the weekend and we know that the hard work they have been putting in is starting to show. We are certain that we will be bringing home some first place finishes soon!
