Bravado playing ESWC Qualifiers at RUSH
NEWS | Abdullah 'anneKsiy' Adam | Counter-Strike | July 20, 2017
Esports fans, here’s one for us. RUSH is an event born from the brains behind the South African staple gaming event, rAge. It’s ALL about gaming and e-sports in particular, with multiple competitions across practically all platforms, catering for the professionals as well as the casual lads and lasses. The titles include Counter Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Fifa 17 as well as a Street Fighter V tournament open to all.
If you happen to be near the Sandton Convention Centre in Jozi, be sure to pop in as there will be seating at all stages with screens for spectators and fans to enjoy while listening to the top shout casters South Africa has to offer. Tickets are on sale at Computicket. Try to pick them up online as soon as possible due to the fact that tickets for events like these sell out faster than hot cakes. For more information on the entire Expo, make sure to visit the official RUSH website here.
Orena ESWC Qualifiers
Let’s focus on the CS:GO aspect for a moment. Orena will be hosting the CS:GO tournament at RUSH, which is the first round qualifier for the Electronic Sports World Cup. There will be 16 teams participating in a best of one double elimination group stage and a best of three dingle elimination playoff and the grand final being a best of five as per usual. A chance to earn a spot to play overseas is undoubtedly going to lead to some very interesting and exciting matches of Counter Strike. For more information on the ESWC event, make sure to visit the official Orena website here.
You can also check the group bracket stages here, the play-off stages here, and the full list of participants here. Streaming will be available on the official Orena Twitch TV channel here for certain games. You can keep up-to-date with the streaming schedule by visiting the Orena Facebook page here. If you’re not sure what the ESWC (Electronic Sports World Cup) is, you can head over to their website here for more information.
Former CS:GO Captain and Bravado Gaming CEO, Andreas ‘Cent’ Hadjipaschali will be filling in for Aran ‘Sonic’ Groesbeek only for Day 1 of the event as Sonic is terribly ill with a serious flu infection. This is what Andreas had to say about the situation at hand:
I’m super excited to throw my walking stick aside and fill in for the squad tomorrow at the ESWC qualifiers. At the same time, I’m wishing Aran a speedy recovery and I hope he can be 100% for the games on Saturday and Sunday. It’s been a while since I’ve competed on the CS:GO scene, but I have no doubt that my BMT still lives! I’m doing this for us oldies, the dirty thirties baby! – Andreas ‘Cent’ Hadjipaschali
We also caught a statement from Bravado CS:GO player, Johnny ‘JT’ Theodosiou, one of our new players who was incorporated into the squad earlier this year, about this weekends event and this is what he had to say:
We are very confident going into the qualifier, our results have been good (maybe not as convincing as we would like) but we’re here to win every event and RUSH shouldn’t be any different. The event should be good as Orena has always hosted quality events in the past. – Johnny ‘JT’ Theodosiou

A little bit more about RUSH
Want to learn more about esports, meet and talk to pro players, watch SA’s top teams compete, and maybe even enter a competition yourself and win some prizes? Then Rush is where you want to be this weekend. Designed by the creators of the legendary rAge (really Awesome gaming expo), the inaugural Rush event, powered by HP OMEN, is a first for esports in South Africa and is set to become an annual showcase of all things esports.
Taking place between 21 and 23 July at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, Rush will feature a variety of competitive esports tournaments hosted by leading local organisations across dedicated esports stages, with live shoutcasting (commentary) by some of South Africa’s top shoutcasters. South Africa’s best competitive gamers and clans will compete for the honour of taking home the glory, as well as for a host of incredible prizes.
Four main stages will be showcasing popular titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), FIFA 17, League of Legends, and Street Fighter V. Fans, supporters and enthusiasts will be able to watch all the competitions live on big screens, with dedicated seating areas at all the stages. In addition, visitors will also be able to sign to enter exciting tournaments across a range of games like Hearthstone, FIFA 17, Street Fighter V and Metal Slug. There are some awesome prizes up for grabs, so anyone with even a passing interest in video games is encouraged to come and take part.
Rush is a rAge esports Initiative, formed by NAG and rAge in 2016 to help build and nurture the emergent esports community in South Africa and beyond. Our mission is to expand the growing esports fan base as well as the local esports community by promoting esports tournaments, competitions and events to hardcore and casual audiences, as well as by bringing a level of professionalism to local events we host or are associated with. The goal of this initiative is to significantly accelerate the development of the South African esports industry as a whole. In 2016 we launched and hosted Africa’s first Esports Branding Summit at last year’s rAge Expo in Johannesburg, in partnership with GAMeS (Global Assembly Marketing eSports).
On behalf of Bravado Gaming, it’s players, staff and management we wish each and every participant the best of luck. Most importantly, don’t forget to have FUN!
