Bravado welcomes Fortnite Team
NEWS | Abdullah 'anneKsiy' Adam | Fortnite | June 1, 2019
You read correctly; Bravado Gaming finally steps into the world of Battle Royale by picking up a competitive Fortnite team. Fortnite, obviously being one of the hottest games out right now especially amongst younger audiences, seems to be the perfect match for a new title for Bravado Gaming to compete in.
The title has also been receiving more and more recognition from tournament and event organisers in South Africa, with events even having competitions on the mobile version of the title.
The team Bravado Gaming is picking up consists only of PC Fortnite players, they all compete in the solo game mode, meaning it’s a free for all once they drop from the party bus, and they are all excited to start their journey with the organisation. The players that will be representing Bravado Gaming are: Tristan Zozu Rens (captain), Jesse Bean van Rensburg and Kade Pony Steyn.
I managed to get in touch with each of the three athletes and here is what they had to say:
I chose Bravado Gaming because I’ve been a fan of the organisation for a very long time and it’s taken me 5 years to get to where I want to be, in Bravado Gaming! I would describe myself as… EXTRAORDINARAY! Prior to Fortnite I played in the local Call of Duty scene then moved onto the European H1Z1 scene for about 1 and a half years, now I’m here!
I have always wanted to share the way I think and do things with the world no matter the organisation I play under, but Bravado is definitely a cut above the rest and the only organisation in South Africa that will make my world 100x bigger. The Fortnite competitive scene in South Africa is probably the fastest growing scene in esports in South Africa. Some tips I’d like to share with the younger players; treat it like any sport, i.e. if you want to be the best and get recognized treat others fairly and ALWAYS have good sportsmanship.
I definitely want to work towards going and competing overseas but that takes time and effort which we will work towards. For now, my goal is to show Bravado Gaming why I deserve to be here and why I deserve to represent them and what they stand for, and I intend to make my mark and stay at Bravado for years to come! – Bean
I chose Bravado Gaming as I felt that the purpose and dream of the organization aligned with my own and that for my own personal and professional growth, I would be best suited under Bravado. The competitive scene is still in its infancy but has an insane amount of potential and is growing every single day with LANs and events happening, there is also daily custom games hosted by the South African Open League for all ZA players.
I think the scene is heading into a great place globally and in ZA. With custom games slowly becoming more accessible it will allow Fortnite to become the best competitive version of itself and the fact that more established organizations are taking an interest in ZA also speaks for its potential and current growth. The best tips I could give to a younger player is be consistent and use your time wisely even if you are only able to play a certain number of hours a day and to watch other pro players footage and learn from them to better your own performance.
I’ve been playing competitively within in-game ranking systems in titles such as Counter-Strike and League of Legends but Fortnite is the first title that I have found the drive and passion to pursue a professional career in. My two main goals in joining Bravado is to further my career as a professional player and improve my game to achieve the ultimate goal of playing internationally and the second goal is to help my local community with growth. Working alongside a titan such as Bravado gives me the best opportunity to bring more attention to the competitive community in South Africa and to myself as an individual. – Zozu
Bravado has this sense of ‘surrealness’ around the name, it is such a well-established, dominant organization that has grown to be one that most players want to be a part of. So, once I got the offer, I grabbed it with both hands. The local competitive scene is on a massive rise, you have thousands of people all working towards the same goal which makes the competitions even more fun. Fortnite is such a complex and highly populated game, there are so many different ways to get the job done. The best advice I can give is telling people to find what works best for them and then keep practicing. Practice makes perfect.
Prior to Fortnite I played Call of Duty in its earliest Esports stage in South Africa. I started in Modern Warfare 2. Nowadays I pride myself in being a very smart player. in a game such as Fortnite you need to think through every possible scenario and every little decision matters. My goal with Bravado is to make the organisation proud. we want to compete with the best all around the world. and I’m confident with a team such as Bravado backing us, we won’t have a problem doing so. – Pony
Prior to this announcement, the team from Bravado Gaming in association with Matrix Maverick Gaming, ACE Gaming and DELL Gaming hosted a 100 man LAN (fully sold out) Fortnite solo event that boasted a prize-pool of R23,250 which saw a massive success. After seeing the enthusiasm and potential of the title and the South African community, the logical strategy was to definitely go ahead and incorporate a Fortnite roster under the Bravado Gaming banner. You can watch the video of the Bring the Bravado event below.
This is yet another big move for Bravado Gaming. It’s definitely going to be interesting to watch these players at work and see what they’ll be able to achieve under the blue banner of Bravado. For now, you can follow each one of them on Twitter here: Zozu, Bean & Pony.
