The RUSH Esports Expo 2018
NEWS | Abdullah 'anneKsiy' Adam | Bravado | June 29, 2018
It’s that time of year again where gamers from all around South Africa will be heading to the new venue for RUSH 2018, the Sun Arena in Times Square, Pretoria. This year we will be seeing VODACOM 4U as the headline sponsor for the event and we’ll be competing in two tournaments hosted by Mettlestate and the ACGL in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (with our female Finesse squad) and FIFA2018 (with 3 of our players).
For the first time in South Africa we will be seeing the introduction of a mobile gaming tournament on a large scale at an offline event. There will also be console and PC E-Sports at RUSH as well. For the console players there will be a FIFA Tournament on PS4 (hosted by the ACGL) which should be extremely exciting to watch some of our local players compete during the football fever that’s taking over the world. We might even see some new tactics coming out as well as a lot more football team jerseys than we’re used to.
On the PC there will be a CS:GO tournament (hosted by Mettlestate) and on mobile there will be a Fortnite 1v1 event. It comes as no surprise to anyone that has been following gaming or tech news in recent times to see Fortnite being added to an event such as RUSH but it definitely is a shocker to see mobile being the version used at RUSH. I think that this was quite a good decision to make since Fortnite is cross-play and if it was a cross-play tournament the PC players would dominate without any competition whatsoever. That’s obviously due to the superior inputs and performance on PC. By hosting a mobile tournament there is no obvious advantage to be had.
The RUSH Expo will take place over three days starting on June 29 and ending on July 1 2018. These correspond to a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The gates open up at 10am on Friday and close at 7pm. Saturday will be open to all at 9am and once again close curtains at 7pm. Sunday will be the shortest day to experience Rush as is starts at 9am and ends relatively early at 4pm.
Each one of these tournaments were open for registration since the 1st of June on the RUSH website. The entrance fee to each and every tournament is actually free with tickets to the RUSH EXPO event being available on Computicket at this link. The weekend pass is only R100 and a day pass is R60, so it makes a lot more sense to pick up the weekend pass which will grant you all the access you need over the three day course of the event. Make sure that whether you are going to be heading over to RUSH for more than one day or not, you pick up the weekend pass just in case you feel like making your way to the event for another day of fun and entertainment.
Bravado Gaming will be attending RUSH with our CS:GO Female #bvdfinesse and FIFA18 #bvdfifa team ready to fight! Our FIFA18 captain, Wasim Rajah, gave me his thoughts on RUSH 2017 and what he is excited for this year.
Rush is an awesome event! Different games and vendors are showcased which makes it enjoyable for everybody. With regards to FIFA, the format is nice because you play groups first which allows you to build up and gives you a chance to rectify any errors in your play. It also gives it a heartier and less “rushed” feel.
I’m looking forward to competing this year as a Bravado Gaming athlete. I’m more excited to be working with my team mates and seeing how many of us can get into the grand finals. We’ve got some real talent and you can be sure we will be making an impact! – Wasim ‘Wass’ Rajah
