Weekly Team Update
NEWS | Abdullah 'anneKsiy' Adam | Bravado | December 1, 2017
The year 2017 has been an emotional roller-coaster for the entire family over at Bravado Gaming, we’ve seen victories and we’ve seen losses as well as the departure of many of our friends. Not much has been going on in the South Africa e-sports scene as far as offline events are concerned after the rAge-Expo, but these are some of the statements and remarks about the year so far and an update of what has transpired.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO)
For the Counter Strike side of things, I decided to get a hold of “Elusive” to give us his thoughts on 2017 as a professional e-sports athlete in South Africa.
We finished off the year on a relatively low point, finishing second at the ESWC qualifier, as well as ESL Africa. We found ourselves in a bit of a slump leading towards the end of the year, but we’re determined to come back stronger. We’ve made some minor adjustments within the team, most notably, Detrony has taken over the role of IGL, giving myself a chance to focus on my own game. We’ve changed our style quite a bit as well, so we look forward to seeing how future events go. We’ve got some exciting plans for 2018, including the WESG qualifier to look forward to! Overall, 2017 has been very positive for us as a team, despite the disappointing finish. We’ve seen a lot of growth in the scene, and look forward to even more in 2018! – Ruan ‘Elusive’ Van Wyk
2017 Definitely had quite some upsets towards the end of the year which has lead to such a drastic change in roles, namely, the change of IGL. Detrony is extremely capable as an IGL and has experience playing that role as he has done so for Bravado Gaming in the past.
Currently: The boys are competing in the playoffs of the ESEA Season 26 where they took down (last night) old rivals Damage Control in the quarter finals stage with a convincing 2-0 win. This means that the squad will be playing vs the winner of BIG5 and Spartan E-Sports. You can find all the details and brackets by heading over.
Defense of the Ancients 2 (DOTA2)
Frank, from our Dota 2 squad informed me about their recent results and expectations moving forward:
All of our mega8 games were 2-0 to us vs Goon squad, Clan In Progress, Exdee, Alpha Star Gaming, Epoch and Divine. As a team we’re just keeping our practice schedule up, trying to progress as a team and get better overall. Also, as a player I’ve met my goals for the year, which is to join the best possible team that I’m able to. As a team we have our goals but as we move into 2018, we’ve still got to see how we do as a whole but we’ve set out our goals and we think we’ll achieve them if we continue with our efficient practice and if we stay motivated. – Mark ‘Frank’ Lehle
Our DOTA2 team has been performing exceptionally well in the latest MEGA8 Pro-16 Tournament. Currently, they’re at the top of their group with a 6-0-0 lead. For more information on the MEGA8 tournament, make sure you visit their page here.
Call of Duty: World War II (COD:WWII)
We also caught up with our COD captain, Dillon ‘Lithium’ Charalambous and this is what he had to say:
We have only played four WWII tournaments and have managed to win 3 out of the 4.
The most recent one was the ACGL 4V4 Variant 2k where we lost 3-2 against our rivals Energy eSports in the Grand Finals. I am happy with our performance as a team and we do have some minor mistakes to work on. We also played a game mode known as Gridiron against eN that we have not been focusing on at all because it will most likely be removed from the rotation and replaced with CTF (Capture The Flag) in the near future. There are some great things happening for Bravado in 2018. I cannot get into detail but myself and team are extremely excited and looking forward to the future. Mettlestate also announced four online tournaments for us which is massive for #CODZA.
I definitely would not say this has been one of our best years in Call of Duty. I am happy we managed to get things on track for VS Gaming and performed much better than previous events.
Besides this being one of the most hated Call of Duty titles by players across the globe, we had too many roster changes and focused too much on 18+ events which did not happen. I believe this was our biggest downfall.
I have not reached my goal as a player and captain. My job is to make sure that my team are in check and that we are ready and prepared to win events. Our main focus now is to win Mettlestate Season 1 and after that our goal is to compete overseas if we feel ready. I’m not going to speak about our line-up, but what I can say is that I am happy with the players we have chosen and I am excited for the future with them. All our players will be playing full time in 2018 for WWII without any distractions.
Infinite Warfare was by far the smallest season we have had in a Call of Duty with regards to tournaments and events, however, WWII is one of the best Call of Duty titles we have had in a while and if there is a year to make a bang, it will be the WWII season ahead!
Our goal is to become dominant. – Dillon ‘Lithium’ Charalambous
As Dillon mentioned, the guys have been looking good whilst competing in a variety of the ACGL tournaments. For more information on the ACGL and their cups, make sure you visit their website by heading over here. In addition, Dillon thought he would make a video, on the topic of how to get noticed in our competitive scene. You can check this below!
The other members of our Call of Duty team told me that they are thoroughly enjoying the new title as well, who knows, maybe you should pick it up and see if you can work your way into the Bravado Gaming side. There are lots of interesting dishes we have cooking in the Bravado Gaming camp. Stay up to date by following us on Twitter and liking our Facebook page.
